An iconic artefact of the Hungarian National Museum was x-ray analyzed today in BNC. The Mors figure, an allegorical depiction of Death, is believed to have been made in a workshop in Augsburg, Germany, in the late 16th century. The purpose of the X-ray examination was to obtain information about the preparation technique and the internal structure of the sculpture. See more... |

Successful test to resume regular reactor operation (updated!)
Fri, 06 Aug, 2021We gladly report that following the COVID-19-triggered struggles in the last six months, there are now good chances to resume regular operation of the reactor. Having solved the technical and staffing problems, the reactor was tested at full power on 21-22 July including cold cource operation. Another test will follow at the enf of August to fine tune further details. The full success of the test allowed for performing some short (remote) user experiments, too. The Management expects the Budapest Research Reactor to return to its regular operation schedule on 6 September.

CERIC call for proposals now open
Thu, 05 Aug, 2021CERIC call for experiment proposals is now open. CERIC-ERIC, the Central European Research Consortium offers access to more than 50 different and complementary state of the art techniques and support laboratories through a single entry point, by submission of a single or multi-technique proposal. To apply for beam time, log in to VUO at https://vuo.elettra.trieste.it/ and use a link in the "CERIC Proposal Submission" section. -
COVID-19 update #6
Sat, 29 May, 2021The recent travel restrictions as well as health and quarantine issues related to the corona virus pandemia impacted the operation of many large-scale facilities, and, unfortunately, our neutron centre has not remained an exception. Therefore the Budapest Research Reactor has not operated since 1 March, 2021. We continue to make every effort to resume the reactor operation and restart our international user program at the earliest possible date, without compromising the high standards and the safety of operation dictated by our 60-years nuclear culture. As soon as our services can be resumed, and the international travel restrictions are foreseen to ease, the reactor schedule will be updated accordingly. The BNC User Office will inform the scientific and industrial partners via the BNC web pages, the user mailing lists and via personal emails about the developments. Thereafter, please contact the respective instrument scientists for further details about the schedule of your experiments. BNC Management

COVID-19 update #5
Mon, 02 Nov, 2020Due to the fast spread of the corona virus, the number of readily available staff in reactor operation has decreased below the level of safe operation determined by law. Therefore we were forced to decide to delay the reactor cycles until further notice - effecting also the cycle scheduled to start this afternoon. Apologies for the short notice.
