Surface water pollution due to discharge of colored wastewater containing organic dyes  requires the development of new efficient sorbents. Mesoporous silica with embedded magnetic nanoparticles is one of such materials. Using inorganic chemistry and structural characterisation, including small-angle neutron and X-ray scattering, enabled us to develop novel sorbent materials that show high performance for elimination of anionic and cationic dye molecules, as well as their binary mixtures from aqueous solutions.
