BNC promoting heritage science
Tue, 01 Feb, 2022BNC has been active in analysis of objects of cultural heritage, which has developed into a broad multidisciplinary field of science of lively international collaborations, such as the IPERION HS approaching its completion and the newly forming E-RIHS. Last week saw the first in-person round table discussion of heritage sciences at BNC for quite a while. 14 colleagues from across the BNC attended the meeting including two new members. Read on...

BREAKING – BNC to ease neutron shortage in Europe
Wed, 19 Jan, 2022BNC calls for BNC LENS beam time proposals to accommodate neutron experiments, which have been allocated beam time in any LENS facility's user program but not yet scheduled for any reason - provided that the experiment is technically feasible to accomplish on BNC instruments. No further refereeing process will be applied. Beside the user experimenter(s) the instrument scientist responsible for the proposal in the other LENS facility is welcome to take part in the experiment. Submission deadline: 22 February, 2022. -
Season's greetings
Wed, 22 Dec, 2021The BNC management wish the entire staff, users and fans a quiet Christmas and a healthy and prosperous 2022. Following an almost two-year period of technical difficulties with the cold neutron source, the research reactor of the Budapest Neutron Centre has performed flawlessly during the automn cycles. Following the winter shutdown the reactor operation is scheduled to restart on 17 January, 2022. The approved reactor schedule for 2022 is available at www.bnc.hu/schedule. -

Tutorial lecture on SANS by Prof. José Teixeria
Wed, 10 Nov, 2021Prof. emer. Jose Teixeira (CNRS, LLB Saclay), on his visit to Wigner RCP (host: prof. L. Pusztai), gave a 2-hour hybrid mode tutorial entitled: “Introduction to neutron scattering by disordered matter”. Fundamental concepts of neutron scattering, as applied for studying disordered materials, were introduced. Although the focus of the tutorial was placed on investigating nanoscale structure by SANS, time was devoted to related topics, such as revealing atomic/molecular level structure and dynamics. Instrumentational aspects were also covered.
